Can you describe a voltage divider and how it works?

Hint: What is the fundamental equation?

Voltage dividers, formally defined, act to divide certain voltage inputs into predictable fractions of the input as an output voltage.

For example, if you were to think of an electric scooter for example, there could be a wide array of sensors, motors, and actuators that all have their own set operating voltages. From your battery, you would get 24 V (for example), and the job of the voltage divider is to step the voltage down so each of these individual devices can get the rated power needed.

Voltage dividers are one of the most widespread electronic circuit fragments, and any real-life circuit is bound to have numerous voltage dividers.
