Glued/Non-glued cantilever beam

A cantilever beam made of 3 similar beams stacked together and force F applied at the free end. In case 1, the beams are glued and in case 2, beams are not glued. Will any case have a constant force and/or constant deflection?

  • In Case 1 (glued beams): The system acts as a single beam with higher stiffness, leading to smaller deflection, and the force and deflection are constant across the structure.
  • In Case 2 (unglued beams): Each beam acts independently, resulting in larger deflection due to lower effective stiffness. The force distribution may not be constant across all beams, leading to differential deflection and force sharing.

So, Case 1 will have constant force and deflection behavior, while Case 2 may have variable force distribution and greater deflection.
