What are the base and peak loads of a generation system, which methods of power generation and storage are suitable for each?

The base load is the lowest average daily load which a system must supply. The peak load is the highest. Base and peak loads can vary seasonally and will change over time. Peak load generation is best served by generation sources which can later be turned off. Examples are oil & gas plants, grid scale battery, and hydro. Base loads are best served by nuclear, hydro, and other high fixed cost, low marginal cost sources.
