What is a unity feedback loop and the core components of the system?

Control Systems Engineering

In control systems, the goal of any electrical or electronic control system is to measure, monitor, and control a process and one way in which we can accurately control the process is by monitoring its output and “feeding” some of it back to compare the actual output with the desired output so as to reduce the error. Control systems engineering can be found all around you, in how your thermostat works, roomba, and more.

From a high level, the core components are:

  1. Controller
  2. System, also commonly known as Plant
  3. Sensor, physical sensor measurement used to determine error between actual and desired values
