You have two objects with basic plus/minus tolerance dimensions that mate together, you want to decrease the total linear tolerance stack up. What can you do to decrease the total tolerance stackup?

You can do statistical tolerancing or make the two components one machined part. Not sure what else you could do

  1. Instead of having a bilateral tolerance (+/- X) you can have a unilateral tolerance (+0, -X).
  2. You could also have the making surface be the primary datum for both parts. 3. You can also add a flatness tolerance on the mating surface.
